Fire crews were called to a commercial unit at Somerton's Somertonfield Road just after 10pm last night
Crews worked through night after the items inside a waste transfer station caught alight.
Firefighters from Somerton, Glastonbury, Martock, Taunton and Yeovil all attended.
A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue said: " Fire engines from Somerton, Glastonbury and Martock were initially sent to this incident, also an environmental protection unit from Taunton, a water carrier from Yeovil and supporting officers.
"On arrival crews requested a further five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform which were sent from Martock, Street and Yeovil, supporting appliances and officers also attended.
"This is an industrial unit measuring 60m x 60m steel frame portal and concrete construction used as a waste transfer station.
"Contents within building fully involved in fire.
"Externally individual skips also involved in fire."
Before that two fire engines from Bridgwater were called to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle - which left one person trapped.
It happened at Middle Road in Cossington just before 6pm.
Crews from Dorchester, Maiden Newton and Yeovil were also called to a chimney fire at a thatched property in Acreman Street in Dorchester.
