SEREN ANNE ORTON

Seren has a young brother affected by HIE grade 2, hearing loss, speech and language delay, developmental delay, social communication and interaction difficulties as well as Perthes Disease. Seren is a 9 year old young carer who helps her brother look after himself, get dressed and looks out for him at school. She is so caring and considerate and makes such a valuable contribution to her family. As plans can change suddenly, she often misses out on things but is so understanding.

ZENA FISHER

Zena has been a respite carer for 27 years and has supported over 40 families and young people during this time. She started Safebreaks in 2009 as she realised that when some of the young people she was supporting became 18 a lot of their social opportunities such as Saturday clubs / Holiday playschemes all stopped. Safebreaks has grown over the years and now provides day services 5 days a week giving support in the community, respite care and supported living in 5 houses in the local area. Many families say as well as supporting young adults she really listens to their parents/carers which makes such a difference.
