A murder investigation is underway in Sherborne following the death of a man aged in his 70s.
Dorset Police say a 36 year old man, from the town, has been arrested.
They say the victim and alleged offender were known to each other.
Officers were called to reports of an incident at Ridgeway just after 5pm last night.
A cordon has been put in place and house-to-house enquiries have been taking place overnight.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Dudfield, from Dorset Police Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "Dorset Police has launched a murder investigation and will be conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
"A cordon has been put in place around an address in Ridgeway, Sherborne while crime scene investigators examine the scene.
"Residents will see officers conducting house-to-house enquiries.
"However if anyone has any information relating to the incident, I would ask that they contact Dorset Police quoting incident number 21:349.
"Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area over the coming days to offer reassurance to the community and can be contacted with any concerns."
