'Christmas in a boat' for a charity set-up following death of serviceman

A man from Somerset and another from Devon are preparing to spend Christmas Day on a boat along with two others.

The Atlantic Mavericks - as they call themselves  - are taking part in this year's Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

It is a 3,000 mile row from La Gomera in the Canaries to the finish in Antigua - lasting 45 - 50 days and starting on December 12.

During the trip they will row for two hours and rest for two hours.

Richard Baker, from near Chard, said: "We are raising funds for the Royal British Legion, Myeloma UK, Riding for the Disabled and 353 a charity set up by friends of ours in memory of their son who was the 353rd British Soldier to be killed in Afghanistan."
