71 year old 'suffered multiple stab wounds'

A murder investigation is underway following a stabbing last night in Paignton - with a 29 year old woman arrested.

Officers were called to an address in Hayes Road at 10.55pm after reports that a 71-year-old man 'sustained multiple stab wounds'.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Steve Davies said: "At this stage we are establishing the facts surrounding this incident. 

"We are urging anyone with information to contact us."

Paramedics and police officers carried out CPR on the man and he was taken to Torbay District Hospital - but pronounced dead a short time later.

Officers located a 29-year-old woman in Totnes Road a short time later and she was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The woman, of no fixed address, remains in custody in Exeter.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the man’s death.

DI Davies added: "The man’s next of kin have yet to be informed and formal identification has not yet been carried out.

"A cordon remains in place while scenes of crime officers carry out a forensic examination of the scene.  

"House-to-house enquiries are being conducted today.
