More light snowfall is possible on remote parts of Dartmoor and Exmoor today.
Around two inches starting falling in areas around Okehampton last night, near Dartmoor.
Devon County Council say gritters were sent out overnight to help treat the roads.
Somerset-based PCSO Linda Brooks posted a picture online of snow in the Winsford area.
Last night Travel Somerset Tweeted: "A very messy night ahead. Heavy rain at times, turning to sleet with accumulations on high ground. As skies clear, risk of ice later. Gritter crews on the road at various times depending on the conditions."
Further afield, this morning a Met Office yellow weather warning remains in force for snow in parts of Wales and the edge of the west Midlands.
