Devon County Council has apologised for what it admits was an 'embarrasing' series of grammatical mistakes in a letter sent to a parent.
The mistakes featured in a letter demanding payment of a £60 fine for taking a child out of school during term time.
- 'guilty' spelt 'guitly'
- 'hte' rather than 'the'
- 'dteailed' as opposed to 'detailed'
- 'cred' instead of 'credit'
- 'issus' rather than 'issued'
Daniel Moore responded by highligting all of the required corrections in red pen and giving the letter a grade of D Minus.
He says the notice was 'insulting' - as he's being punished and told his child needs to attend classes to learn to write and spell.
A spokesman for Devon County Council said: "We have been trialling a new IT printing system and a number of mistakes were unfortunately not picked up before this letter was despatched.
"It is an embarrassing error and we have taken steps to ensure it won't be repeated."
