Child of Courage: Danielle Pomeroy
Danielle Pomeroy is 12 years old and has tried to raise money for many charities from the age of 6, but this year she has truly outdone herself.
After hearing that her uncle has been struck with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at the age of 54, she took it upon herself to arrange a charity auction to raise as much money for the charity as possible.
She visited, emailed and phoned countless local businesses to ask for donations, was interviewed on The Breeze radio station and in the Herald Express, guided us on how to advertise the lots on facebook on her behalf, and arranged a venue that would host the auction.
All of this was after we had explained to Danielle that the money raised would almost certainly not benefit her uncle, as he was already at quite a late stage in this terminal disease - she fully understood that and wanted to raise money for the benefit of a different family that she would never meet, but would be in a similar situation - a truly selfless act.
The auction itself was a big success and raised nearly £2000; she is about to plan a second auction before Christmas.
All of this has been done while she has been taking her exams at Churston Grammar School. She is a truly selfless, courageous, inspiring and brilliant young girl.
