Did you know commuting between Exeter and Torquay by bus could save you £1,000 a year?

Research conducted by Stagecoach, Britain's biggest bus and coach operator, across 35 key commuter routes in England, Scotland and Wales compared the weekly price of hopping on the bus with the cost of fuel and car parking for the same journeys.

On average, bus travel travel costs are around 55% cheaper than the same commute by car, saving passengers around £90 a month. The savings - even with fuel prices being at their lowest levels for six years - would be enough to cover the entire annual energy costs for a medium-sized house*.

In the South West, Stagecoach compared the cost of commuting by bus (Stagecoach Gold X46) and car between Exeter and Torquay, an average weekly mileage of 244 miles. By car this would equate to £48.70 in petrol and parking costs whereas a weekly Megarider Gold costs £26, a saving of 47%.

Across a year, the total savings could be as high as £1,044.18.**
