Ocado staff based in Andover are now at risk of redundancy 3 months after a huge fire on site, according to Usdaw, the trade union for their staff.
Online shopping fulfilment provider Ocado have informed Usdaw that after failing to find an alternative site in the Andover area, they propose to make redundancies.
Daniel Adams – Usdaw National Officer says: “Clearly the staff are devastated by this development, particularly as they have spent the last 3 months helping to keep the business going after a fire gutted the Andover site. The company tell us that they have been trying to find a suitable alternative site in the Andover area, without success, and they now face a 2-year rebuild to replace the burnt-out facility, so they are proposing to place a significant number of the customer fulfilment centre staff at risk of redundancy.
“Full and meaningful consultations are ongoing with the company, with a view to minimising redundancies and mitigating their impact. In the meantime we will continue to provide our members with the support, advice and representation they need at this very difficult time.”
