Oscar 90 host Jimmy Kimmel is getting excited:

The Academy has tweeted this video of how they prepare the Awards venue at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

Here in the UK the Academy Awards are really for night owls - the show gets underway at 1am! That's 5pm in Los Angeles and 8pm in New York.

Gary Oldman is the big British hopeful at tonight's Oscars. He's already picked up a Golden Globe, a Bafta and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

Among the other British talent nominated is former Hollyoaks star Rachel Shenton  who wrote and stars in The Silent Child, which will be competing for Best Live Action Short Film.

The Shape of Water is on course to be the big winner at tonight's Oscars. It leads the nominations with 13. It faces competition for Best Picture from British-directed Three Billboards, Dunkirk as well as Darkest Hour.

Madonna has tweeted using the #oscars saying "best date ever" with a picture of Michael Jackson.

Talking of Oscar ceremonies in the past US magazine Entertainment weekly asked its readers what they thought the best 'best picture winner' in history was - they came up with 'Gone with the Wind'.

Meryl Streep is up for a best actress Oscar for her performance in 'The Post'  - she's the most nominated actress ever - 21 nominations!

Talking of records Christopher Plummer who is nominated in the supporting actor category is the oldest actor to ever be nominated for an Oscar - he's 88!
