My Name Is Prince
My Name Is Prince
Presented by Mark Goodier
2016 will be remembered by many as the year in which we lost too many iconic figures in the world of popular music.
At least there's comfort in the knowledge that their great work will never leave us, and in the case of Prince Rogers Nelson, the latest proof is the brand new compilation album 4Ever, which brings all of his best-loved songs together in one place.
This radio special takes Prince's catalogue of brilliant, incisive soul and funk as its starting point, and marks the new retrospective with an upbeat, hour-long tribute to one of the greatest singers, songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and producers in history.
On board to explain exactly what Prince's music means to them are such avowed admirers as soul heavyweight John Legend, contemporary singer-songwriter Jack Savoretti and stars who emerged at the same time he did, such as Paul Young, Leee John of Imagination and Mark King of Level 42.
Melanie C recalls the time that Prince visited the Spice Girls backstage at a show, Andy Bell of Erasure says which of his songs always has him dancing and close friend, inspiration and collaborator Larry Graham explains how they met and became kindred spirits.
All of their great stories and many others play to the soundtrack of a wealth of signature Prince hits such as '1999,' 'Sign O' The Times,' 'When Doves Cry,' 'Kiss,' 'Little Red Corvette' and 'Raspberry Beret.'
