Man arrested on suspicion of possession of offensive weapons

Avon and Somerset Police have arrested a man from North Bristol on suspicion of possession of offensive weapons.

He was arrested last night (28/12) at an address on Shetland Road, and because of the nature of items that were seized and others that have been discovered a small (50m) cordon was put in place as a precaution and a handful of houses nearby were evacuated.

Police say the action was taken in conjunction with advice from the EOD (Explosives Ordnance Disposal) who will be attending the property.

They've apologised for any disruption caused to residents in the area but stress the actions taken are purely as a precaution, until the EOD attend and a comprehensive search of the property is completed.

Officers have confirmed that this is not a terrorist-related incident and the actions taken are precautionary due to some of the items found in the property.

The arrested man remains in police custody and is helping with enquiries..
