A man from Aldermaston's starting a 14 year prison sentence for attacking a woman in her fifties with a meat clever in the Caversham area of Reading.
27 year old Luke Mackrory from Lockside Court was found guilty of grevious bodily harm with intent but cleared of attempted murder, following a trial in May.
He's also been given a further four years on licence.
The victim of the attack in October last year needed substantial treatment in hospital for her injuries.
It left her with injuries to her head including lacerations and a fracture to her skull - and she also received bruising to her body.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Emily Evans based at Reading police station, said:
“This was a vicious attack on the victim, who is still recovering from her injuries.
“Mackrory is a dangerous man and has received a significant prison sentence.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the victim in this case, who has supported this investigation and had to go through the trial.
“Incidents of this nature are taken very seriously and when a report is made it is thoroughly investigated and offenders, like Mackrory, will be taken through the court process.”
