Man dies in serious collision in Farnborough

A 22 year old man has died in a serious collision in Farnborough.

The man died after his car collided with a lamppost on Cherrywood Road in the early hours of this morning (Friday 19th July).

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as a Police patrol car was following the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The road had to be closed for a number of hours as emergency services worked at the scene.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson issued this statement:

"An investigation has been launched following a fatal collision in Farnborough in the early hours of this morning (July 19)

"An Audi A5 collided with a lamppost on Cherrywood Road, shortly after 1am.

"The driver, a 22-year-old man from Farnborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"The incident has been referred to the IOPC as a patrol car was following the vehicle at the time of the collision."
