Basingstoke MP has exciting opportunity for young movie makers

Maria Miller wants young people interested in filmmaking to enter a competition that could put them in direct contact with the movers and shakers of the film industry.

Judged initially by the local constituency MP, MP’s recommendations are put forward for a further round of judging by industry professionals, with prizes provided by the industry sponsors, which in 2017 included mentoring from film industry professionals, a private screening of the winners’ films for family and friends, and classification of the winning films by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).

The categories for the 2018 competition are:

·        Best Short Film (under 16)

·        Best Short Film (16 and over)

·        Best Script (under 16)

·        Best Script (16 and over)

Maria said: “This competition is a great initiative which gives film makers the opportunity to showcase their originality and talent. I would urge anyone in Basingstoke with ability and ambition in this area to get involved with the competition.”

The closing date for entries is 30 September 2018. More information on how you can apply for the competition and the criteria for entry can be found at www.filmthehouse.co.uk.
