Helpers needed for families suffering with mental health, abuse issues or rural isolation

Trustees put on a special lunch for existing volunteers to say a “big thank you”

A charity which supports families with young children who are struggling to cope across North Dorset are looking for volunteers.

Home-Start North Dorset helps families with a range of issues including rural isolation, abuse issues and mental health struggles.

Last year more than 70 families and 170 children benefited from the support but numerous families were declined due to lack of trained parent volunteers.

In the past seven years the Sturminster Newton-based charity - the local independent arm of nationwide registered charity Home-Start UK - helped over 225 local families.

Established in 1973 there are 215 local independent Home-Starts in the UK, and 22 countries on five continents have Home-Starts providing support for families.

The charity is currently on a recruitment drive to attract more volunteers, as well as funding for their training and support - with approximately £1,500 required per volunteer.
