Reading's home of World cinema

The Reading Film Theatre is nearly 50 years old and continues to thrive despite the rise in multi-screen cinemas and home movie streaming.

The independent cinema has just started its Spring season of films bringing the very best in world films from its base at the Palmer Building on the University of Reading Campus.

Its programme includes the latest blockbusters as well as a wide range of smaller budget and foreign language films.

They also claim to screen films which raise important and challenging issues you won’t find on the multiplex circuit.

The cinema operates from a 300 seat auditorium which is hired from the university - but that's where their connection ends. The RFT is open to all, you don't have to be a member. 

In recent times the charity raised £50,000 to upgrade its projection equipment and now boasts digital screenings and state-of-the-art dolby surround sound.

The RFT's Chair Juliet Hanfling spoke to us about their Spring season:
