A woman from Torquay is calling for plastic packaging to be removed from floral tributes.
Carol Allerton told The Breeze: "It is a lovely gesture to place flowers for remembrance on railings and benches, etc, but could we try and ask people to take the plastic wrapping home with them and just leave the flowers?
"No one goes back to remove it once the flowers have died.
"I live near the coast and am concerned the plastic all too often ends up in the sea."
A Torbay Council spokesperson responded by saying: "We do not give formal permission or provide information on what is acceptable in regard for the placing of floral tributes, but we do respect, appreciate and understand that families and relatives do leave tributes from time to time.
"We monitor the sensitivity of this and act according as and when required and we do remove floral tributes when required, including plastic wrapping.
"This is done in consideration of the area."
