Emergency Services Award

The Breakwater Bistro

Emergency Services Award sponsored by The Breakwater Bistro

The Nominees are:

Laurie Elder

Laurie ElderLaurie is the lead nurse at the breast care unit at Torbay hospital, she looks after all her patients with amazing care and gives them all the time they need even going into work on her day off to make sure they are ok. However what makes her special, is she treats her staff the same, I have been very ill and she has not only supported me but my family as well. Visiting at the hospital, home and texting.

Not once has she forgotten to invite me to a team meeting, knowing full well, I would not come but still making sure I am part of her team. The NHS gets a lot of stick and staff suffer stress but if all managers were like Laurie, the world would be a better place.

Torbay Hospital A&E

Torbay Hospital A&EThey are always there for my 6-year-old son who suffers from asthma, quite often he is in overnight due to his attacks. The staff really look after him. They are a wonderful team, and nothing is ever too much trouble. They are a real asset to the local community. Without them, saving so many lives in and around Torbay, we don’t know what we would do.

Torbay Coastguard

Torbay Coastguard

The Torbay Coastguard rescue team are a crucial part of our emergency services in South Devon. Due to our Seaside and Maritime history, those who safeguard the community in the seaside areas are of the utmost importance. Those who work in the coastguard team really care about our community and help out those in need. Some of our coastguards and the sons, daughters and even grandchildren of former coastguards. The urge to help those in need runs deep and the sea is a treacherous place.

Voting closes on 16th September.
