Some people may find the below content distressing.
The Parent of the Year Award sponsored by The Brewery Quarter recognises a member of the emergency services who has gone beyond the call of duty.
Winner: Shelly Lewis
I would like to nominate my friend who over the last 18 months has lost her Mum, her Nan and her husband, who died 10 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. She is a brilliant mother to their two young children, even though she is grieving big time herself. She works part-time during school hours.
Finalist: Marcus Jelfs
This person I admire so much. He has cared for his wife for 30 years who has MS. His son has a learning difficulty and works part-time in a shop and he ensures he has everything he needs. His daughter who is a midwife/nurse endured years of IVF. Through terrible losses, he stood by her, supported her and now has a wonderful grandson. He was an engineer and trained many apprentices to achieve their goals. in the 9 years, I have known him has supported me when I was trying to get a diagnosis for my daughter who has Asperger's.
This gentleman who is now in his seventies suffered a very bad head injury last year and lost his licence for a while and though all this, NEVER complained about the circumstances he found himself in. He does everything to try and help everyone and all who know him, respect him so much. I have tried to recommend him before, but I never hear anything. This man deserves the earth, I am telling you. He is a gentle and humble man and I feel so much respect, he deserves a real break. I really hope you will take the time to get to know this man, he is one in million.
