A behind the scenes look at Winchester Cathedral's new exhibition

We've been given a special behind the scenes look at the brand new 'Kings and Scribes - The Birth of a Nation' exhibition at Winchester Cathedral.

The exhibition, which will open next Tuesday (21st May) after nearly ten years of planning, showcases Winchester's role in shaping early English history.

Thanks to a grant of £11.2 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and donations from other generous supporters, a stunning new three-level exhibition space has been created in the Cathedral’s South Transept to enable all visitors to enjoy, discover and appreciate Winchester Cathedral’s remarkable history and heritage.

One of the nation’s greatest treasures, the Winchester Bible, is part of the new exhibition. The manuscript is the largest and finest of all surviving 12th-century English bibles, renowned for its sheer size, rarity and artistry.

The secrets within the Cathedral's mortuary chests have also been uncovered by a team of researchers from the University of Bristol.

Their work is ongoing, but visitors to the exhibition can find out what has been discovered so far.

You can see some behind the scenes pictures of the exhibition, ahead of its opening, below:
