The Dementia Advice Service at Andover Mind provides support to people with dementia and their families. We act as a guide to help people with dementia navigate the care and support system throughout their illness, helping to provide easy access to care, support and advice. We focus on early intervention and support planning to prevent crisis and to promote well being. You can be referred to the service through your GP, Older Persons Mental Health Team or from a Self Referral.
Dementia is a term that is used to describe a collection of symptoms including memory loss, problems with reasoning and communication skills, and a reduction in a person's abilities and skills in carrying out daily activities such as washing, dressing and cooking.
Our Service at Andover Mind provides information about local services and facilities to enable people to keep in touch with their local community. We want to create a dementia friendly community that supports and sustains people in their homes, neighbourhoods and social networks.
People with dementia need to continue carrying out as many of their previous activities as independently as possible, in order to retain their skills. Doing things for themselves will enhance their physical, social and emotional well-being, through the preservation of their dignity, confidence and self-esteem.
