'Drive through concerts' being planned this Summer

A image of how the concerts will look

Tony Hadley, Gary Numan, Embrace, The Zutons and The Streets are among the acts playing a series of 'drive through concerts' at Filton Airfield this Summer.

The line up has just been released and tickets go on sale next week - with Filton being one of 12 venues hosting 280 cars at a time for the shows.

Bjorn Again, Russell Watson and Beverley Knight are also playing while Ash will be playing at Cheltenham Racecourse alongside other acts.

The team responsible for the YTL Arena Complex, Bristol, are working with Live Nation and tickets for the first events will go on sale on Monday (22 June) with more acts announced in the weeks to come.

Live from the Drive-In will run for six weeks from the end of July, with up to 20 different shows a week, offering family entertainment, as well as live music, theatre and cinema.

The event aims to reopen the live entertainment market while adhering to strict social distancing guidelines, allowing fans to return to live events and keep safe from Covid-19.

The capacity of each event will be capped to around 280 cars with adequate spacing in between. There will be socially distant audience facilities to keep all event-goers as safe as possible while allowing them to enjoy the atmosphere of a live event.

Sarah McBride, Partnerships Director for YTL Arena Complex, said: “We are incredibly excited to be hosting Live Nation’s drive-in events here at the former Filton Airfield.

"This is an opportunity for the live events sector to start up again safely, supporting staff, performers and restoring confidence in audiences. This is going to be an exciting summer, packed with a range of events for all ages to enjoy and we look forward to welcoming everyone on site.”

Earlier this year YTL’s plans to repurpose the Brabazon Hangars to create an arena for Bristol and the south west were granted planning permission.
