Lighting up Newton Abbot

Join The Breeze and Comer Carpets ​as we light up Newton Abbot on Saturday 23rd November.

This year Newton Abbot will welcome the festive season with a host of activities throughout the day including live music and entertainment, Christmas Carnival parade, light switch-on and a fireworks finale. Full list of activities below. 

Join ​The Breeze More Music Breakfast Show Presenter Matt Rogan at the Clock Tower Stage from 4 pm as we count down to the dazzling light switch-on. Proudly supported by Comer Carpets.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON EVENT - Saturday 23rd November

  • Live music during the day from Al Marconi in Courtenay Street;
  • Free balloons and face painting
  • 10.30-2.30 Golden Lion Square Coombeshead College musical showcase
  • Matt Rogan from 'The Breeze' hosting LIVE from 4 pm from the Clock Tower stage;
  • Music from singer Aaron Garner, audience participation games again from Matt as well as small giveaways; Breeze reindeer antlers and hand-held flags
  • Christmas Carnival Parade from the War Memorial at 5 pm. The Father Christmas float and Carnival Royalty Winter float is joined by the Mayor and Mayoress, the Town Crier and more;
  • Free goodie giveaway;
  • Lights Switch on at St Leonard's Tower at 5.30 pm;
  • Frozen themed Synchronised musical firework finale from St Leonard's Tower;
  • Photo opportunities with Santa on his sleigh after the switch on.
     

Victorian Evening Charity Event & Late-Night Shopping - Wednesday 4th December

  • Late night shopping until 8.30 pm;
  • Live music, carols and street entertainment;
  • Bell ringing 5 pm – 6 pm at St Leonard's Clock Tower;
  • Children's entertainer Elfic;
  • Market Square filled with charity stalls from 6 pm;
  • Last chance to purchase tickets for the Mayors Christmas Draw;
  • Santa in his Clock Tower Grotto 6.30-8.30pm;
  • Street food in Courtenay Street;
  • Stiltwalker and balloon modelling;
  • 'The Pied Piper' traditional steam fairground organ, Wolborough Street;
  • Spectrum Music in Courtenay Street.

Christmas Street Fayre, Lantern Parade & Late-Night Shopping - Wednesday 11th December

  • Late night shopping until 8.30 pm;
  • Lantern Parade - Buzz, Flutter and Honey a micro-world of beauty and ingenuity magnified in lanterns;
  • Participating local primary schools procession at 6 pm from Bearnes Primary School to the Clock Tower stage;
  • Christmas Street Fayre with stalls throughout Courtenay Street and in (closed to traffic) Queen Street;
  • Street food, live music and street entertainment;
  • Santa in his Clock Tower Grotto 6.30-8.30pm;
  • Free balloon modelling;
  • 'The Pied Piper' traditional steam fairground organ, Wolborough Street;
  • Music from Spectrum Music.

Christmas Street Fayre, Mayor's Carol Service & Late-Night Shopping - Wednesday 18th December

The Mayor and councillors invite you to join them for traditional carols in the Market Square at 7 pm, with a performance from the Newton Abbot Rock Choir.​

  • Late night shopping until 8.30 pm;
  • Christmas Street Fayre with stalls throughout Courtenay Street and in (closed to traffic) Queen Street;
  • Street Food, live music and street entertainment;
  • Santa in his Clock Tower Grotto 6.30-8.30pm;
  • Live music from Spectrum Orchestra.
  • 'The Pied Piper' traditional steam fairground organ, Wolborough Street;
     

Father Christmas at the Clock Tower

Children are invited to visit Father Christmas in his Clock Tower grotto on Wednesday late-night shopping evenings and Saturday 14th December.  There is an opportunity for a chat and to receive a bag of sweets.  A suggested £1 contribution per child is welcomed with all proceeds going to the Mayor's charities which, this year are '4 Dementia Carers' and 'Homestart'.

  • Saturday 30th November – Music from Rock Choir, Storm Troopers walkabout
  • Saturday 7th December – Frozen walkabout characters, live music from Salvation Army Band, Spectrum Orchestra and the Court Leet Santa from 10.30 am
  • Saturday 14th December- Live music from Salvation Army & Spectrum Orchestra and FREE Balloons
  • Saturday 21st December – Live music from Spectrum Orchestra and FREE balloons
