Socially distanced court trials begin in Bristol

South Swindon MP Robert Buckland is the justice secretary

Four Crown Courts across England and Wales are opening their doors to jurors later, to hear new cases for the first time since March.

To ensure social distancing, the trials are expected to be split between three courtrooms.

It comes amid growing concern over the massive backlog of criminal cases since the pandemic started.

Justice Secretary and South Swindon MP Robert Buckland says the four crown courts are Bristol, the Old Bailey, Cardiff and Manchester.
