Police in Highworth have cordoned-off part of a field off Pentylands Lane.
So far we've only been told it followed information from a member of the public.
It's believed it could be related to the disappearance of Linda Razzell in 2002 but no official confirmation has been given.
A force spokesperson said: "People living in Highworth are likely to see a police presence throughout the weekend as we conduct enquiries in the local area.
"Following information received from a member of the public, we have cordoned off an area in a field off Pentylands Lane.
"Officers, including dog units, have been at the scene since yesterday and are likely to remain there for the coming days.
"As our enquiries are still at an early stage, we are unable to provide further details at this time, but if there is an update we will let the public know."
