Basingstoke death no longer being treated as suspicious

Police say the death of a woman in Basingstoke is no longer being treated as suspicious, but it does remain unexplained.

A 73 year old woman's body was found at a home on Merton Road on Friday morning.

A 47 year old local man had been arrested on suspicion of murder, but he's since been released from custody, with no further action to be taken against him.

A Police spokesperson issued this statement:

"We were called at 7.54am on 25 January to a house on Merton Road, Basingstoke following the discovery of the body of a 73-year-old woman.

"A 47-year-old-man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of murder.

"The man has been questioned by officers and today (Jan 26) he has been released from police custody, no further action will be taken against him. 

"The death is no longer being treated as suspicious however remains unexplained at this time."
