Police in Paignton say two men have been arrested as they continue to investigate two armed robberies.
The first incident was reported at Tesco Express in Victoria Street at around 10.10pm on Friday - the second at Betfred bookmakers in Palace Avenue last night.
A force spokesperson said: "It was reported that a man had entered the store in possession of a knife and hammer and made threats.
"The suspect was reported to have taken an unknown quantity of cash before leaving the scene.
"On Sunday 27 January, police received a report of an armed robbery at Betfred bookmakers, Palace Avenue at around 6pm.
" It was reported that a suspect had entered the store in possession of a hammer and knife and left with an unknown quantity of cash.
"No one was harmed during the incidents.
"Enquires lead officers to an address in Paignton where two men were detained and a weapon and other items seized.
"These incidents are currently being treated as linked.
"A 25-year-old man from Paignton and a 45-year-old man from Torquay were later arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody at this time
"Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses and information relating to these incidents to be reported to 101 quoting CR/007857/19."
