Ex-Cabinet Minister Ed Balls, singer Louise Redknapp and Olympic gymnast Claudia Fragapane were among the celebrities vying for the glitterball trophy in took Strictly Come Dancing’ 2016. Balls said he was ‘waving a flag for couch potatoes’ and became a firm favourite of viewers despite getting repeatedly getting low scores with the judges.

Bake Off's-Off

TV viewers were shocked when it was announced Bake Off would move to Channel 4 in 2017. Presenters Mel and Sue and legendary judge Mary Berry confirmed they were staying with the corporation and wouldn’t make the move. Paul Hollywood was the only Bake Off regular who decided to switch.

Judges Houses

Honey G was given the boot from the X Factor but returned when contestant Ivy Grace had to pull out due to visa issues. Three other ‘wildcard’ contestants were chosen by the judges as the live shows began.

The Beatles documentary premiered

Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney attended the UK premiere of Eight Days A Week. Featuring unseen footage it followed the fab four on tour during the 1960s. It would later receive a 2017 Grammy Award nomination for Best Music Film.
